Gary Gygax, the originator of Dungeons and Dragons has passed away in his home.
It's a truly sad day for those of us who love his game dearly.

A sad day. I can't say I always agreed with his editorials' views, but the Original Dungeon Master will be sorely missed.
OTOH, it's rather inspiring, looking back at all the things Gygax was able to see happen in the world, since the days of D&D's founding:
- He got to see a fellow '70s nerd become the richest man in the world.
- He got to see a self-confessed gamer become a macho Hollywood action star, stereotypes to the contrary.
- He got to see the fantasy genera charge triumphantly to the top of the box office
and the bestseller lists.
- He got to see role-playing -- tabletop, live action, online and virtual -- become a worldwide recreational phenomenon.
- He got to see himself gaming for eternity on
Futurama.
- He got to see D&D jokes in TV series and cell-phone commercials: proof positive the game is no longer obscure.
- He got to see Bothered About Dungeons & Dragons dry up and blow away.
All in all, seems to me that his
Ring of Three Wishes must've had more than the usual number of charges.

Gary Gygax was a man who taught us to be heroes
And so has become a legend.
