Is it me or are we the victim of some really annoying spam?

Is there anything we can do to prevent it?

Unfortunately, no.

We are trying to find out if it is bots that can read the encrypted/scambled message when you register, or if there is a human behind these.

It might be worth noting that one should not reply to spam; on another board, I know people will make jokes and stuff after it, and its gets really annoying.

Spam has been deleted, and the spammer's account is now targeted for termination. Thanks for the heads-up, HMB.

See, this is a good example of what happens when we are less restrictive on board enrolment for new members, those bots/guys gets in...

Suggestions welcomed to solve this dilemma...

I'd suggest setting up a sticky here saying that you will not be able to accept accounts from certain email accounts, and list those affected. This way people will know how to go about it with a legitimate account.

It might be a small nuisance for the new poster, but it just means them going to hotmail or some other similar account to set up a freebie for a couple of minutes. It's a nuisance for both you in clearing them up, and us for having to trip over the damn things.

Another option would be to activate manually all the new members, to activate their accounts, but that would lead to some frustration for those who just discovered our boards and want to post right now.

Now HDCurtis in the same area again. This company seems to like two initials with a name.
