Tom looks at Hubbio.

"We have to make sure Lady Trea Hoblin gets to safety, the pirates might come here as well. I think she will be safer at Hoblin's Estate with their guards. I can be of assistant I'm rather good with bow."

Turning to Lowen he says:

"I believe you should cast your spell to Lady Hoblin, she will be the target if the pirates spot us."

"I would agree that Lady Hoblin should be the recipient of your spell signore. However Tom, this is the guard house. I doubt the pirates would look for the signora here and it's full of guards. But probably the lady wants to be with her family in such times.

Where do you want to go my Lady?
Signore Alfonse, do you agree that if Lady Hoblin wants to return to her estate we should escort her?"

TREA HOLBIN says

"I have seven guards who came with me. And my arrival was not announced ahead of time. But I won't refuse your addition to my escort; I could be a target if Folbre has dagger-men lurking in the streets. On the other hand, most of his followers retreated to his estate the last we heard, and these pirates are attacking my family's waterfront property and vessels now. Probably, they are in league with Folbre. So I think you should either bolster my guard detail, or go help the Holbin men fighting the raiders at the Bay. "

Fild looks at Alfonse clearly leaving the decision on the Blades involvement to him.

"The pirates are the greater threat," Alfonse says. "Lady Holbin has her own guards, and if a force comes for her that they cannot handle, its unlikely one or two of us will make a difference."

He stands, dusting off the front of his tunic. "Let us be off to the harbor."

"I will need my weapons." He tells the guards.
"About tactics, Tom, even if I fire a couple shots with the boomstick, I'll get close with the pirates, sword-n-board kind. Try not to plant any arrows on me."

As the group prepares and arms, Alfonse discusses tactics. "We have some options here, of course. We could try to score some points with the Savelles and focus on protecting their holdings, or reinforce our good standing with the Holbins and focus on theirs. Or we could focus on backing up the guards and maybe win them over to our side. There's also trying to get to the ships and cut off any escape routes the raiders may have plans."

He waits until a moment when he's sure none of the guards are listening. "Or we could, you know, skip town in the confusion."

Gubbio hurries off to fetch the party's arms and armor.

"We were instrumental in throwing this city to a faction war. It seems that chaos would have started without us anyway, since Aldron or whomever is pulling his strings had something planned anyway. Perhaps hoping to find the city half empty as Savelles and Hoblins had killed each other.
Whether it would have happened without us or not, we had a hand in throwing that city into chaos. We should try to do what's best for this city. You Alfonse, are smart and educated. You decide what is best for this city and we do it."

GERTIE mumbles something about a fishing trip.

DAMIAN says,
" I'll go wherever you think we should go, signore" , looking at Alfonse.

"I say," Alfonse says, "We should be bold. Go for the raider's ships and burn them behind them. Let the bastards try to figure out how they're going to get back out of Povero with their ill-gotten loot."

"Don't worry Fild there will be plenty of targets, so I will not shoot at your direction. If we decide to counterattack the pirates flaming arrows will be useful. I just need something that I can put to the arrows to get them flamable."

Tom turns to Gubbio:

"Can you give us some gun poweder? We can put it in a small boat, take it near the pirate ship, get clear and then I can fire a flaming arrow at the boat. The explosion will make a big hole at the ship."

"We have some powder. But you'd better ask the commander about using it."

AFTER A FRUITLESS ATTEMPT to persuade the watch captain on duty to give them extra powder, the party sets out for the wharves to fight pirates.

Along the way, Damien and Gertie keep a sharp look for any powder-sellers, oil mongers, or the like. As the party's most direct route cuts right down the Bay Road and through the Market District, there's still some chance of obtaining flammable stuff...

THE PARTY hustles down the road. At times the afternoon streets are clogged with traffic, but most of it is headed away from danger, and the adventurers meet no armed or forceful resistance on their southward course through the Municipal District and the Market plazas.

As they enter the Warehouse District, Damien spots an overturned wagon on Bay Road. GERTIE checks it out.
" Ugh, it stinks!"
She pokes about in an busted cask and then sniffs her fingertips.
"Whale oil."

Further south, just past a row of long, low warehouses, they can all see smoke rising and can hear people shouting.

Damien and GERTIE leave two casks of oil with the others, and then scout ahead...

They come back a couple of minutes later and describe chaos on the waterfront. Pirates are looting warehouses, small shops, even food stalls.
Small fires, but nothing big here; further off to the east a ship burns on the open bay.
The small ships and boats in this area are not burning.
