"Trade secret." He smiles. "But if you're thirsty, try the Kraken's Arms. I stopped in for a drink when I got into town yesterday morning. They don't have much good ale left, not at prices I cared to pay. But they had just finished brewing a tasty batch of small beer. Maybe it's not all gone yet?"
Torthur smiles as he looks at the man. "I only be askin acuz I make me own ale too. Git yer a sample sometime soon n I give ye a good price. Good fer both a us I'd wager."

"Sure, bring it by when you are able."
The man looks down and sees that Clyde has already devoured his food.
"Fix some more fish and taters for the bear, my dear!"

"Make up yer mind!" Cormac growls, "Are we fallin' back or stayin' here?" He falls back a few steps and drops behind some new cover, an arrow pulled flush in the bow.

STREET OF HAES
Renn buys some of the fish, pressing slightly more copper in the man's hand than he's strictly owed. "Kraken's Arms, good suggestion."
"What do you say, friends? I still owe Roald a drink helping break the siege. Did you know that, Torthur? This one saved The Duke's bacon---belly and back."
He made sure to speak the words in well in earshot of the vendor. After all, they'd need more troops soon, and more watchmen too. A little story-telling might not hurt the plebs' enthusiasm to enlist. Or to resist conscription, whatever fate deemed necessary.

Torthur nods, understanding Renn. "Yeah, I knowed it. I thinks this man an 'is wife wants ter stay here n sell their wares which is awright by me." He looks at the man and grins, handing over a few more silver coins than necessary. "I bets he will pass tha word around, Mister Renn, don't no fear none. Get the word ter the right kinds o people ye be meaning, lad."
He belches loudly and has another fish meal as Clyde eats yet another one.
"Awright ye pig, leave some fer the citizens who wants this great meal." Torthur's hand is on CLyde's neck, pulling the bear away or trying. It takes a try or two but the bear finally follows Torthur. "So we goin ter this Inn? If we go inside, CLyde's gonner wants ter either drink or wrassle, boys."

THE WOODLAND AMBUSH
Ahead, through the mist, a demon-wolf's horrid howl rises. Bowstrings twang, goblins screech, feet pound the sodden underbrush.
Peeking around a tree trunk, Safira sees the goblins come rushing uphill, slashing at branches and lifting their shields over the heads for protection against arrows. They are funneling into the gap between the trees that leads right to Gunnar.
The hulking Northman hastily mounts his horse, seeming to nudge it in the opposite direction of the charging goblins.
One of the enemy cries out in goblin-talk-
The goblins veer left, taking cover in a thick stand of dead wood.
A huge black-furred shape explodes out of the mist and brush a short distance ahead of Safira. The warg, big as a pony, turns its lupine snout in her direction. It sniffs the air, scenting her warm flesh, and stalks forward...

"Guess it all depends on what comes out those gates!" Foerde says. "Watch the walls in case any Gobs pop back up to chuck some spears at us!"

Seeing she has been spotted, Safana rises and extends one hand. Fire kindles between her fingers as she chants in ancient Khinasi, and rapidly grows to a swirling sphere of fire. She tosses this in the direction of the great wolf and it swells as it bounds smacking against its snout with a flare of flame. It rolls back and forth as her hand directs, always between her and the Warg!

While eating Filbert looks around trying to understand if the breakfast is good enough for the Duke. It's the first time he actually helps to prepare a meal for Davlin, he uses to worry only to steal a pie or a loaf of bread from the kitchen or just eat with the others that work for the Duke. So now the halfling feels the responsibility to make a good impression as cook as well.
When the rider crashes their breakfast time Filbert frowns but this lasts barely a second since the man's news are too important. When the rider mentions the Black Tower Filbert looks at him slightly confused and asks:
"The Black Tower?"

Devlin thinks hard about the device in question*.
"These riders with the black tower banner...could you tell if they were men or goblin-kin?"

" They were surely Men, Your Grace, armed and dressed as knights or men-at-arms."

"Aye, and that too. But don't make the rest of us sound so helpless!" Then he speaks in a lower voice, one not meant for the general crowd. "But it was damned good timing. His Grace is...impetuous. That fight could have turned very ugly. We need military commanders with good heads on their shoulders--I've found that's the only way to make sure your head is still on your shoulders when the battle's done."

Renn and his friends walk on to the nearby drinking house...
THE KRAKEN'S ARMS, HAES
The three companions have only just settled into their seats at the rowdy, crowded pub when a tall, thin man in a gray cloak approached their table and leans over it.
"Captain Rennalt?"

KRAKEN'S ARMS
Renn smiles and leans forward, "Aye, you've found him." He crosses his legs, making sure the dagger tucked in his boot is close to hand. "What can I do for you?"
