CORMAC

Dietric shakes Cormac's hand.

"Could you tell me more about Aerik's ways, Cormac? When we have time, I mean."

Cormac grins, a twinkle in his eye. "Aye, lad. I'd be happy to. Think we got work to do before then, though. Let's get back to the bonfires."

He hefts his ax and gets back to chopping.

...

Cormac and Dietric, with the aid of several of the loggers, have fashioned stacked and bundles of wood to be lit as bonfires, should the camp be attacked.

A boy runs into camp, yelling about 'hundreds of goblins marching down the road, headed right this way!"
When he calms down a bit, the youth tells anyone who asks him that he spotted the goblin vanguard while he squatted atop the bluff men call Widow's Leap.

The sun will set soon.

Roald will find Dominica inside, at a table. She has a wine glass in front of her. Once Roald arrives she will beckon him over
to the table. "I presume you were set straight as to what happened? That is not the first, nor the last time that this sort of
scam will happen. I suppose the serving girl fell in with this man. I am sure he worked for someone else. That is how it works.
I know a bit of these occurrences. I have been many things in my long career, from a simple maid to the noble. Being a sellsword, I presume you've seen quite a few things yourself?"
Roald sits down at the table across from Dominica. "Yes, I suppose I have. Done quite a few things as well. Mostly bad." Roald grunts a humorless laugh. "When I was younger, I used to wear a necklace of elf-ears around my neck. Back when I still found killing to be a novelty."

Dominica raises an eyebrow at the mention of elf ear necklace. "Ah, youth. We do the darnedest things, don't we? I know I did a few things my dear father had to pay through the teeth to cover up. Who wants to be noblish when you can act depraved and embarrass the family and fell no remorse? Plus I made quite a lot of coin in the day. No scruples back then, is was grand."

She sips her wine and looks nostalgic. "Ah, finally I had to leave Ruorven as I had embarrassed father one time too many. It has been over ten years now. I made it all the way to Caer Haes. Was beginning to settle in then I met Devlin and the invasion began. I saw the boats first hand arriving. I got away luckily. I nearly went to warn my dwarf friend but thought better of it and went to the castle. You know the rest. I was, well, the two idiots did attempt to attack me, but lay lifeless in an alley in the city. If I ever make it back one day, I promise to give Fez my regards. he was one of my supposed informants who sold out to Alamie I believe."

Sipping once more, she puts her glass down. "For now, the best course for me is to return home. By now, my indiscretions are forgotten and father will be glad to see me. Seeing as I do have a long life for whatever reason the creator has decided, I will return to Caer Haes one day and give Fez my blade through his throat."

"Well, at least you have a father to embarrass. All I knew of my father was a purse of coins my mother would receive every moon's turn."

Dominica sips her wine and nods. "Well, here we are. I am paying for our meal, Roald. Then I'll be retiring early. It has been an eventful evening after all. You may make arrangements for our transport to Coeryanys. I trust you." She beckons a serving wench over. "We shall be eating now."

Cormac picks up his bow and walks over to the boy. "When will they get here? Is there time fer us to go an' have a look?"

He looks toward Dietric. "Get the torches ready and pick out a handful o' men. When the gobs get here, light the fires up."

Dietric does as he's told.

The boy tells Cormac, ''I ran. There's time. Um, maybe half an hour?"

Cormac knows that the sun will be setting about that time...

Filbert looks around the big theater noticing that are many places someone will hide.

"I will take the ticket in case I need to speak to you, but I prefer to get a look at the theater first and make sure everything is ok and aren't armed men around for example. Of course I will look for a man with a yellow mask as well. What time will you meet the informant and where? I will be hidden at the place earlier and keep an eye on you."

Renn nods at the sensibility of Filbert's plan. "Good thinking. They did not say when and where, only that they would be here in a yellow mask. So your searching the theater would be most prudent, little friend."

"Thank you Captain. I will disguise myself as a boy because someone may recognize me as well. If the man finds you before I come back tell him you want to talk at the end of the play and to meet in front of the stage if possible. I'm not an expert as Captain Ghonallison of course but I think is better if you pick the place and the time so you will let him or them less time to prepare if is an ambush. During the meeting with the informant I can be hidden at the backstage and look for any suspicious activity. If I were you I would avoid talking in small places where I cannot run away, where many people are gathered and where I cannot have a good view of the surroundings. But this is just me, maybe I become a little paranoic when comes to Your Grace safety. It can be indeed someone who knows something and want to help us for once!"

Once the meal is over, Dominica will excuse herself and retire for the evening. She has paid for the meal of all three of us.

THE THEATRE

Trumpets blow, curtains pull back. The folk in the galleries sit down, while the groundlings turn towards the stage and jostle for the best spots.

Filbert hides behind the stage while most of the auidence are distracted by the fanfare or busy settling into seats.
