2nd ed. will always be my favorite, I just deal with the growing editions.

But I still use the 2e Ravenloft stuff for adventure ideas and background and convert a lot of it to 3e.
Oh, yes! I did this with Carnival.

To folks in my age group, RV stands for Recreational Vehicle. Usually when talking about where you are heading next as in "yeah, we're taking the RV down to Florida for a few weeks."
I'm also one of the old fossils that still sometimes thinks back to 1E (even if all the old RL material did get made in 2E.)
But then, I became a grandfather this week, so I guess I'm allowed to show my age in these ways. :D

Sadly, that was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the RV abbreviation... I wouldn't say that I am old, but there is some truth to your statement, Catman. :?

Congratulations, Grandpa Jim! I hope that both the mother and new baby are healthy and happy! :)

ok ok, I got it!

It's RL from now on and no RealLife as abreviation any more!

Oh, with luck, context will help, though for whatever reasons I've found less need to use RL as "real life" here.

For some reason, I'm now thinking of the overlap of two acronyms among computers: CGI (Common Gateway Interface), the act of making a script that does things like interactive forms and such (I'm not sure how much PHP is overtaking that) and CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) which is rapidly becoming the way to do many many special effects in movies.

Well, ou could still use the RL abbreviation for Real Life, but instead use it in lower case (rl) and save the higher case (RL) for Ravenloft. Makes sense to me, but I have an odd grip on reality (I have a firm grip on reality, it just doesn't like to hold on to me to tightly :P)

I guess you are a 1st ed veteran then... :!:

Or have you invented a new system...? I'd like to see that

Actually, I am working on a cross-breed system, though I have played 1st edition in the past (used to have an old-time DM).

How about RvL?

That would be interesting...

Is it to be shared with the rest of us in the near future or is it just an extension of your house rules (not for many people to see/use)?

No need to add a 3rd letter...

It's based on a cross between the Deadlands, Savage Worlds, D&D, Orpheus, and the Window. Hopefully, the result will be simpler than the description would suggest. When (if) I get the bugs worked out, I'll post the basics on the Roleplaying Games boards for the Cafe and Monte Mal.

LOL -- isn't it easy enough to note the context of the terminology being used? When I see RV or RL or R.L. or whatever, it's the context that gives it meaning! :)

How about (and call me crazy if this sounds slightly off side) we call it 'Ravenloft'.

Just a suggestion.

I like 'Ravenloft' 3.0 with some 3.5 revisions (to help balance some things out).

I'm glad to see so many hits on the 3.5 option. That's the one I picked, cuz it's most relevent - and the tightest edition yet.

Obviously I still use 2E stuff (check my recaps) but it is soooo easy to convert this stuff to 3.0 or 3.5. Whichever you prefer, as long as it's third edition.

Kinda ironic that I'm preaching this, cuz I was one of the cats back in the day lamenting the loss of 2E and wailing about this new edition. But it's sooooooooo much greater. I love 3.5 mechanics.

The crunch may change but the fluff never does.

EDITED

Oh yeah, my congratulations to Grandpa Catman! Hope the new kitty brings you bundles of joy!
