Burdur shook his head. "We can't rest in that place. Perhaps we should head back upstairs. There may be more ghouls down here. I counted four ghouls and two that the captain killed. If those cursed abominations were brought back to the world by their blasphemous actions, their comrades may have too. "

Kimber punches the air.

"Go Chutney! ... oh and everyone else too. Good work everyone!"

She watches Vorj tend to the captain but makes no move to help unless he is doing something that will actually make things worse. She does, however, do a quick check of everyone else to see what she can find.

"Good idea. The place we rested last night seems as safe as anywhere in this place. But if we are going to stay here any length of time there will be an issue with food and water. I'm less... enthusiastic about eating the food here now I've seen... well. this."

She joins the party if they head upstairs, leaving the cellars behind with no regrets

"I agree that upstairs we have better chances to survive. As about the food, well I do hope it's has nothing to do with the ghouls and with what they are eating...Once we rest we can return downhere and finish searching the dungeon."

"Agreed," says Vorj. "There's not much we can do down here, where we could be fighting for our lives again at any moment. I'll take the captain over my shoulder. We'll move when you say, Van."

A raspy pained voice comes out of the captain. "I can walk. I lost my eyes not my legs. I may be near useless for the Rebellion now, but we will win in the end. I may be able to help in training commanders. Yes, that is it. Less glorious but that cursed place stole my eyes." Esthenor seems to be coming, slowly, to accept his blindness although he still seems to be grieving the loss of his eyes.

The party reached the dining room without any problems and without encountering Rose's ghost on their way through the room that the kids died. The skeletons of the kids are still huddled in embrace on the cold floor, where they died of hunger, abandoned by their crazed parents as the group crosses hastily.
On their way down, the group notices there's another outline in the portrait. One of similar height to Captain Esthenor... and while only the silhouettes are outlined usually, Esthenor's eyes are painted in with detail.

Van grins.

"Captain, I'm all for the rebellion and to crush the royalists scums but now is neither the right time nor the right place for such discussions. While we are in here we are a team and we should let our differences aside and work as partners if we want to survive and return to our homeland."

When he saw the portrait Van says:

"This ghost house still plays with us...Look, this portrait keeps changing according how our party is doing. Lets get something to eat from the kitchen and then rest at the dining room as we decided. We also need better weapons for the ghouls. Maybe we can find javelins or spears so we can fight them from distance."

Kimber frowns

"We must be careful. I wish we didn't have to eat the food in this house... there is more going on than ghouls in the cellar. Those ravenous things don't paint. But I agree about the weapons. The less close we have to get the better".

She relaxes in a corner, taking deep breaths, hands close together, a clear pearly light coming from between them. After a few minutes, she cups her hands for a moment, then smiles as the sinuous, furred shape of Pugsley slides up her arm.

Van blinks.

"What? Another Pugsley?"

Burdur hasn't touched the food or water from the kitchen. "I am not hungry yet. Who knows if the House doesn't suddenly poison good food?" he says, way past the point of pausing when talking about the residence as it is a sentient entity.
Burdur looks at Kimber and Pugsley, surprised. "Wha... ? Another Pugsley" he says copying Van's astonishment. "How many can you summon? I've seen you using spells in the fight."

Kimber jumps and looks slightly embarrassed, although whether this is because of the summoning or because she is caught cooing over and stroking Pugsley is hard to say.

"oh! well... its not a spell really. I just... call them and they become my companions! Its a druid thing. Isn't he sweet?"

She holds up pugsley who wrinkles his furry little nose at them.

"I can have a couple at a time. I'm still pretty new at this."

"We can just taste some food and see how we feel, last time it was ok but I understand ypur concern Burdur. I'm leaning to believe that one of the houses games is keep us fed and rested to challenge us more later with the traps and the undead. Speaking about traps, we need to think a way to search for them. Last time Burdur was lucky at the pit. I'm pretty sure there will be more of them in the dungeon."

"Too easy," says Vorj bitterly. "There's no entertainment for the house in doing that. It would much rather make run and fight and bleed."

He looks uneasy as Kimber summons another companion. He says, "Kimber, are these creatures ... loyal to you? I want to be sure that the spirits animating this house are going to influence them, too."

Kimber looks up.

"they are loyal, yes, provided I do not put too much strain on them. They are companions, not like a wizard's slaves. But they can in theory be enchanted or possessed... just like anyone else."

Her voice wavers a little.

"Under the circumstances, you probably want to be more worried about me."

The blind captain turned his face to regard Kimber with a questioning look. The ruined bloody eye sockets can't convey expression too well, but it's obvious he has been paying attention to what was being discussed.
"What did you do royalist?"

Kimber gives him a glance, then remembers that of course he wasn't there.

"There were ghosts. One of them... attacked me. Its still in my head. I... occasionally lose control to it at moments of crisis. Also, the name is Kimber."
