The mysterious swordsman wastes no time in laying into the cowering undead with his gigantic blade.
Heads roll and limbs flop down, severed.

But the gibbering horrors still outnumber the party...

RAEN blasts bolts of lighting at the hungry dead, and Benn calls a rolling fireball to burn the things.

The dead things don't even cry out in pain, but continue groveling before Klokulf as the Lawgiver's priest looks on.

The stench of burning hair and skin fills the already-fouled air of the room, gagging the less stout members of the party.

When Klokulf commands the undead to fall on one another, screams of unholy joy rip out of the blackened lips of the possessed bodies. They leap into frenzied combat, ripping and biting blistering, blackening flesh, ignoring the fiery orb that cooks the meal they're making of one another.

The Armored Swordsman

The armored swordsman doubles over coughing and retching, instinctively he moves one his hands to cover his face seemingly to forgetting that he is wearing his helmet. Panicking his breathing becomes labored as he falls to his knees, his oversized sword falls to the ground; the hilt of the blade suspended just above his knees because of the chain that attaches it his gauntlet. Taking a deep breath, the armored swordsman removes his horned monstrous like helmet and letting it fall the ground. His hands move underneath the skirted on the armor plates and move about as if searching for something.

Underneath the monstrous helm, the party finds a pale skinned human with light colored hair and a look of horrid disgust on his face. The disgust only gets worse as he holds back the vomit, while trying to hold his breath. All the while he frantically searches the area around his waist for something. Frantic search comes to end as he pulls a small sealed case out from underneath his armor, a look relief crosses his face as he cracks the seals and pulls a clean cloth out of it. Quickly he use the cloth to cover his nose and mouth, with bated breath the armored swordsman begins to breath again.

The expression on his face is that of relief and disgust.

The Gaunt Magician says,
''You see? The portal is too dangerous for you to handle without my help. Look at this burst of strange things coming through! I think the far end must be wandering the infinite planes. It might be acting as a sort of summoning spell now. Anything could--"

The man breaks off, gaze turned toward the portal, which no one has been watching closely during the attack of hungry dead.

A nearly naked girl slumps beside the misty black pool, her white limbs shaking and her pale golden hanging in her face as she pants for breath.
The newcomer looks up at your party, wide-eyed, and then turns toward the charnel feast now drawing to a close.
She faints.

Surveying the aftermath, Klokulf's face twitches, but it is unclear whether he is suppressing a look of disgust or a grin of pride. At the very least, one can hope that it is both and not the more despicable of the two options. "That was somewhat more gruesome than I intended," he understates simply.

He slowly picks his way across the field of slaughter to the unconscious maiden. Once there, he extracts what appear to be priestly robes from his pack and drapes them across her form.

Bennedict crosses to the robed man. He reaches down, grabbing him by the collar and hefting him to his feet. "Then stop your rambling and close it! Try anything, and die horribly."

He shoves the man towards the portal and then watches him closely.
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

Once cut loose, the Gaunt Man retrieves a book from his bags and another, the notebook, from the pile Benn's party recovered from the hidden collection here in the dungeon.
He grabs chalk from the supplies the party found using his directions.

“Let me see...”

He makes a circle around the portal disk and begins adding sigils.

The leaping thing emerges too quickly for the Gaunt Man, bent over in writing, to dodge.

In a moment, more bodies burst up through the portal. Two of the three grimy, hairy humanoids heft big rusty axes and the third carries some sort of crescent-headed iron mace. They cast about, squealing like shrews.
The Gaunt Man screams, staggering back from the humanoids.
The creatures advance, still squealing.
Where their eyes ought to be—dead-white skin.
More are coming through in a rush…

The Outlander warrior springs into action, hefting his bloody great sword and bringing it down on the nearest of the eyeless humanoids.
The creature squeals at an ear-piercing volume, staggering about with one arm shorn off at the shoulder.
The huge sword travels in crimson arcs through the enemy, cleaving bone and flesh, drawing more high-pitched shrieks.
But as quickly as the creatures fall to the huge sword, more of their kin spring up from the portal, shrieking and hopping in a frenzy and laying all about with axes and crescent maces.
The sheer mass of the attack shoves the warrior back a few feet.

Klokulf, tensely standing by the unconscious woman in the face of the shrieking onslaught, points at the Gaunt Man with his left hand. "Unless you think you can put up your seals in the midst of all this, you had better help me move her to safety!"

Kat moves swiftly forward to shortly behind the armoured figure. As the attackers try to move around him she pins them between herself and the warrior and drives her rapier deftly into their flesh. Aiming for vitals she takes good care not to be surrounded herself...

Dorgio joins the Outlander swordsman and Kat in battling the monsters, while Raen fires a blast of energy into the creatures.

The warlock captive aids Klokulf in removing the blonde girl from immediate danger.

The brutal toe-to-to combat leaves little room for tricky maneuvers or spellcasting.

The swarming, squealing foes move to encircle the main group, cutting the girl and the two men helping her off from the others.
But the outlander's great sword severs limbs and lops off heads as Kat tucks under the man's left side and needles any eyeless man-things that step close.
Alain brains an enemy with his morningstar and Benn cudgels one to the floor.

Klokulf protects the girl.

In less than half a minute, the foes break and the ones still able to run make a break for the stairs--but not fast enough to escape the long, sweeping arc of the outlander's sword or Raen's crackling blasts.

The last enemies fall, leaving the party victorious. Plenty of blood splashed on harness and clothing--but it comes from the dead and dying eyeless humanoids.

Dorgio squats, spear cocked over his right shoulder, eyes on the portal.

''We should physically block it. The wreck of that gun carriage, furniture, building stones. I doubt such a barrier would keep out a demon, but it might at least block beasts and men from passing. Try it?"
