I find every ideas here very interesting, and reading this has been entertaining to say the least.
But I still can't get the point of this thread . Let me explain: I don't get why is this made.
Is this some sort of excercise to improve descriptions/Immagination?
Sharing some ideas? Get some hint from other members?

Thanks in advance for the clarification, I will probably post something here.

Ps: i really liked the part with the four poster bed. It made me chills, wandering what lay past the curtains. Please complete it and tell me what you immagine. I am curious!

If I understand correctly, the idea is to make a collaborative creation together. Five has provided the framework. Anyone else can take an element and add to it. Piece by piece, we'd build the house together. Right?

I just read the last Five comment, and If I understand correctly he says that this is getting messy and instead of having the Dom Rassveta a physical location on ravenloft he will post here any encounter/location/npc/event/etc that is ravenloft themed, AFAIK is something similar to random hook thread, but still different.

All good. :)

The point of this thread is exactly as Gonzoron said:

Yet the beauty of it is (in theory, and from my point of view anyway) that because it is a collaboration then its actual dimensions are both limitless and piecemeal. Eventually, with enough ideas generated (rooms, oddities, encounters, etc), then any DM who stumbles upon this thread can very easily piece together/customize their own version of "Dom Rassveta". Take what you like, ignore what you don't like, modify the so-so, or build on an extension. There is no wrong approach.

Essentially, it's a random hook thread for haunted houses. It all depends on your approach. If you want to add on to an existing idea, then awesome. Do it. If you want to claim your own room (or wing, or floor for that matter!), then do it. Play your hand at Frankenstein and create something wicked for the PCs. Fine strokes, broad strokes, it's all up to you, this thread's DM. I try to leave mine as a sort of imaginative tease (I'm not a writer)...but that's just my approach.

Ideally, the literal result of "Dom Rassveta" should give any cartographer a right bloody headache. ;) haha Yet keep in mind that, again, only YOU can lay the actual foundations.

And the change I made was more to reflect my malleable methods (sometimes annoying) of imaginative output than anything. I wanted to present just enough of the original idea behind this thread as examples, but with no bites it was becoming more linear than I wanted. So I switched gears and tried for a more "remote random", or "episodic fragment"...that still can be tied-in to Dom Rassveta, but can equally be tied to anywhere else.

Dunno if that makes any sense; kinda hard to explain thought process. :P

Awesome, Thanks for the clarification! This is a very nice idea, it could be a really useful tool for anyone who wants to build a haunted house!
As someone said maybe in the general forum it could be more visible for everyone!
Anyway keep up the good work! I will post something soon!

I'll get back to the mouths of madness in a bit. I'm in no rush. For now, it's back to the house above...

"The Invitation":

One of the PCs can't sleep at night. Ideally it's the one previously targeted by the house but it can be another just as easily (although you might lose that gaslight/group conflict effect if you start spreading too thin). Stomach pain/hunger/whatever is keeping them from restful sleep and they physiologically feel the need to move about the house during it's witching hour. This hour, that you as DM will determine, will have significance later on in the adventure.

As they wander about the house they will eventually interpret the pain in their stomach as one based on hunger. The kitchen will have probably already have been found at this time so off they go to fill their bellies.

Having satisfied their bodies they eventually return to their room/sleeping area. Yet before they extinguish their light source something out of the corner of their eye draws their attention to the mirror/writing desk. There, written with a steady, precise hand are the words "I want to know, would you die for me too?".

As soon as the words register, a face/person appears in the mirror/corner of the room. It is the man who "approached" the PC in the scene "The mirror that tells no lies". This time his features are hardened, with an almost fanatical look in his eyes. He stares at the PC with burning, almost hypnotic eyes for a moment before suddenly vanishing, along with the writing.

If you want, lighten the man's appearance to benign and include the message "I want to know, just what you could do". As we'll find out later on (through my version anyway) it's all relative. :)

In fact, for this particular backline I'll be providing two versions of this once-man: one for DM's who like charismatic challenges, and one for DMs who prefer to just unleash the dogs. I won't etch nothing in stone but I'll provide breadcrumbs for those two destinations.

As an alternative, use the old lady for one, the younger man for the other. I short-stroked my NPC intentions in an effort to hook interest from any of you who may be reading this. ;)

And as to the question that nobody asked: Is there food in the kitchen, or not? DM decides. This could be a hotel/inn/guest stay encounter as well, so keep that in mind. If the PC keeps their food with their travel kit and their kit with them in their sleeping quarters then we can work with that too. Just sub in the return to the room with a turn around/whatever.

Cut Scene #1 (*):

Children rhyme and giggle.

Run through the forest.

Trip and fall.

Lost.

Alone.

Unafraid.

Wander.

Stone Pillar.

Ancient.

Drawn.

Giant snake.

Elder.

Wise.

Friend.

Mentor.

Paternal.

Name being called.

Enlightenment.

* Here you can flesh things out in whatever manner that best suits you and your style of DMing. I've intentionally left it vague for this particular reason. I envision a PC looking through the eyes of the child, perhaps as through a dreamscape, or, a sort of stop motion/muddled effect of memory recall. Essentially it's a momentary inheritance of memory. A sort of psychic link within the realm of deja-vu. The descriptors above should be (read as) emotional resonance, yet the vision is clear enough to formulate, albeit briefly, in the PC's mind.

Why is this particular PC marked? Bloodline? Capability? Strength? Weakness?

Is there a form of transposition going on? Mental? Physical? Both?

Who is this child? Male? Female? And why can't the PC remember the child's name?

Only YOU can answer these questions...unlessI'mlefttodoitduetolackofparticipation. :)

If you think it might get some interest there and, better yet participation then by all means...

Do you know of any decent Spellrents I can hire to make it happen?
