Terror Track: Path of the Miser

Post by Drinnik Shoehorn »

So I came up with this idea after reading the first Grim Harvest adventure where the PCs find a corpse with some gold on it. This works best when a PC takes money off a corpse with the intent of spending it on wine and whoring.

Stage I Gold heals the player. For every 10gp the player touches, he regains 1hp. However when ever he drinks alcohol he has to make a fort save at DC 20 or have a -5 penalty to all Int, Dex and Con roles. This only applies to alcohol he has bought himself.

Stage II The player needs to keep at least 10 go on him, or suffer a -1 to all roles. He is now healed 1hp for every 5gp they touch. Alcohol now poisons him when he drinks it, taking 1d4 Con damage per drink. However they can heal this damage by running their hands through ago in the same way as healing hp, but for evey point of Con healed this way 1gp is turned to lead. On the plus side, they can heal any ability damage in this way. The character gains no pleasure from spending money on none essential goods or services.

Stage III the player needs to keep 15 gp on the or suffer a -2 penalty to all roles. The. character can no longer gain any pleasure from spending more than 10gp on anything. Food tastes like gruel and water, despite how well cooked or prepared. However, the player heals 1 hp for every 1 gp touched. If the player has to spend more than 30 gp on anything they suffer a further -3 penalty on all roles.

Stage IV The character needs to have at least 30gp on him at all times or suffer a -3 penalty to all roles. Further for every gold piece less than 30 he has he takes that much damage a turn until he has 30. Damage taken in this way can't drop him below 1 hp. When he has over 30 hp he can heal this damage with his new abilities. However at this level, he can only use a coin to heal himself once a day. When a coin has healed a point of damage, it can not heal the character again until the next sunrise. For every gp the player spends on none essential goods he takes 1 hp of damage per gp that can only be cured by the player touching a gp has never touched before.

That's as far as I've got. Suggestions?

Stage 5 could be turning into something akin to a coin golem (see "Lucre" in Children of the Night: The Created" for rules on how this might work). That would fit your increased sustenance on coins and decreased sustenance on food and water.

To give this curse a little more sting from a player's perspective, you might have a reduced effect of potions and other magical ingestibles as well.
