Amtgard is one of the few major LARPs in the US, along with Dagorhir, NERO, the SCA, and Belegarth. Various campouts are frequently held, where people spend 2-7 days (depending on the event) beating each other with foam swords, and shooting each other with foam arrows. This coming May, 2011, one of the biggest Amtgard events of the year is going to be Ravenloft themed. The master of Castle Ravenloft is having guests for dinner—and you are invited!
The castle rises over the dark forests of the land of Barovia, looking down upon a sad, frightened village surrounded by an endless sea of dense fog and mist. The master of the castle, Count Strahd, is a vampire, and the night and its creatures
belong to him. As long as Strahd exists, Barovia and the land around it will never be safe.
A group of Heroes has recently arrived in Barovia, stepping out of the mists to find themselves caught up in the evil emanating from Castle Ravenloft. These Heroes have chosen to enter the castle and discover the secrets waiting within. The dangers are great, the monsters are deadly, and only the bravest and most capable Heroes stand a chance of surviving—let alone succeeding— in defeating Strahd and his minions. The entrance to the castle looms ahead. Strahd’s plans are nearing fruition, and the master of the castle has an undying thirst for blood. Can you defeat Count Strahd and the Monsters that inhabit Castle Ravenloft?
Game Overview
This year’s theme is a quest to stop Strahd Von Zarovich Master Of Castle Ravenloft from escaping his eternal prison in the mists. Teams of 5 will battle all weekend in a Knoblander style game to garner coins with the Team with the most coins being named the victor of the Battle for Ravenloft and be allowed to leave the Mists.
Basic rules for the weekend
Once you arrive on site and check in at the gate. You have arrived in Barovia. You will be checked in on the class you are playing( you can change this each morning at 07:00) and your gear and spell/ability sheet will be checked in. You will be given a card for each weapon your check in ( remember these can be stolen. If someone loots your gear just give them the card and the tab mentioned below) and marked with a small tab only weapons marked as checked in can be used! Tags may be purchased in town to replace missing or looted tags ( or weapons destroyed by spells or abilities) these are paid for by in game cash, not real money no matter what anyone in logistics tells you. especially if they look hungry.
You will be given a black bandanna signifying when you are out of game. If you are not wearing said bandanna, you can be vulnerable to attack from not only monsters but other players(protect your goodies!) each time a monster is slain you will earn coin that can be used for your team, sold to the highest bidder, used to repair equipment, buy new spells, etc..
Each person will have lives based off of 1 class
They must choose their class each morning at 7am.
If they run out of lives they are slain(out of game) until the next morning at 7am or raised from the dead somehow. Teams camping together is not required but it is encouraged!
