Ravenloft Modern?

Post by taintedsoul »

Hi. I am trying to get a Ravenloft game going using the D20 Modern rules. Has ayone done this before? If so how did it go? Do you have any advice if you did?

Also, here is the intro I used for the game:

The Long Shadows of Midnight

Jacob Malloy stood beneath the hulking ediface of Saint Monica's
children's school. THe cold pale bricks of the fortress like building
had been home for abused and abandoned children for nearly a centruy.

The thick brick walls and castle like structure a barrier against the
horrors of the outside world, the grounds far enough away from the
nearest town to offer a sanctuary to the children within.

But in the long moon cast shadows of midnight the walls seemed
changed somehow, as thogh the walls meant to be a sanctuary had
become a prison.

Jacob, or brother Jake as he was known to the students, stood in the doorway, his face lit by the pale
orange glow of his cigarette. He had not smoked in years, a small
sacrifice for the honor of joining the priesthood.

But the events of the past few days had left the devout priest
shaken, and when he had seen the pack of reds he had almost
instinctively picked them up and fell into a habit he had thought
long shaken.

It had started with Rex, a stray dog that the children fed and who
hung around with wagging tail waiting for their scraps. They had
found the poor animal gutted and hung in the bathroom. The blood had
covered the walls, the floors.

The children had had nightmares from that day on. But these were no
ordinary nightmares. They spoke of what they called the 'Lurker in
the Darkness', a boogeyman that Jacob privately admitted disturbed
even him.

When Father Donovan had died, a ripple of fear had spread through the
priests and nuns of St. Monica's. The dog had been bad enough, but
violence from abused children was not unheard of. But with Father
Donovan it had been different.

Jacob closed his eyes trying not to remember, but the image had been
burned into his mind, like the touch of a hot brand. He had been
making the rounds, checking the children to make sure that none were
still awake after lights out. He had moved on to the chapel, to make
sure Father Donovan, always a friendly man who was good with the
children, had remembered to lock up, and perhaps offer the younger
priest a cup of coffee.

The moonlight filtering through the stained glass windows had painted
the room with a bloody glow, and he had searched the chapel
dilegently with no sign of him.

Taking the moment of silence as a sign he had decided to stop and
pray for the safety and comfort of the children. With eyes closed he
had knelt before the large cross, head bent in supplication and eyes
closed.

When he finished he opened them, ready to see the face he had often
looked upon at the close of his prayers, the face of Christ on the
cross.

But it wasn't Christ's face, but the bare bones and tattered flesh of
Father Donovan who looked down at him. He had been crucified in a
mockery of Christ, his face stripped clean of flesh, his blood soaked
clothes torn and flesh tattered...

Jacob took another puff and ground the butt beneath his boot. A cold
breath of autmn adding to the chill he already felt.

The cops had not helped, and He suspeceted even more deaths would
come.

He drew a letter from beneath his coat. There was a demon at work,
and he knew he would need help...

**************

This is a modern Horror game that will use the D20 modern and
Ravenloft rules sets.

In the game the players will be investigating what has happened at
the St Monica's School, and their characters should reflect that.
This will be an adults only game and will include both adult themes and
Graphic Violence.
