Is the Mailing List still necessary?

Post by Catman Jim »

For those people still subscribed to the Wizards Ravenloft Mailing List, you probably received the same message I did yesterday. (below) Personally, I think it has outlived it's usefulness. Nothing really of usefullness or interest has come from it in several years, and I much prefer viewing posting boards like this & previously the Kargatane's, I would not want to essentially receive every post as an email. What are all of your opinions? Should we let the list die, or does anyone feel there would be usefullness in stepping up to ownership & maintaining it?

It would appear the actual owner stepped forward to reclaim it today. Apparently, he'd forgotten about it.

However, he's now asking to be updated on the canon history of Ravenloft from the creation of Necropolis onwards. I'm not *that* well versed in Ravenloft history yet, anyone else feel like letting him know?

And personally, I like hearing from the list, even if it's just to follow the MotRD game that is having it's digests sent every two weeks. I admit, I don't use it for any source of information on Ravenloft, but that's primarily because no-one else posts!

I just got an email from a good friend of mine saying that he has picked up ownership of the mailing list. I'll let him know about this thread in case he might want to posts something here in respect to this topic.

ditto. Let's hope he/we can make something of it... why not? perhaps some people are still sybscribed who have forgotten about it (basically) and we can gently nudge them in a more interesting direction: here.

The more forum and places for ideas we have for Ravenloft, the better :)

I'm sad too that the mailing list is dead. I often use its archives.

Ummmm...hello?

I was and still am, the Ravenloft Mailing List Moderator. I emailed Melanie to tell her that I still watch the List, although there has been no activity for a long time now. And I certainly did not "forget" about this List. I believe my email changed, and I forgot to give it to Melanie, but I've been on the List always.

Where is this "friend" getting his info?

Seems to me people have not waited for the answer from above  Everyone can subscribe to take ownership, including the real owner, but the real decision will have to broadcast (or communicated) later....
Looks like a computer science problem, really ;-)

Sorry Mortavius. That was just the impression you gave me from your e-mail to the list.

I never emailed the List... I emailed Melanie directly and privately. I think you're thinking of another person who emailed the List.

Mark.

This is the message that Kel-nage is referring to. I don't interpret it as Khelben was claiming ownership though.
