African Cluster.

Post by GreenWood »

I am currently working on a cluster based on African culture, which I think is very unrepresented in Ravenloft. It will have 4 domains total. The biomes will be a large savanna, a upland rain forest, mountains separating those two, and a mangrove swamp adjacent to the rain forest. I will happily share this here when it is completed, my main issue is a name for the cluster that fits but isn't totally stereotypical. I will give credit to whoever can help me find a fitting name.

I created two continents mixing up Asia and Africa, the Tropical Verdourous Lands and the desertic-savannah Amber Wastes.

I said Africa is underrepresented, I actually mean sub-saharan Africa.

Mistmaster, I really enjoy all the clusters that are canon. I still use the Burning Peaks in my campaign.

I found a few Xhosa words that sounded interesting to me and had meanings which could imply something dark about the cluster:
isiphelo (end)
ngezantsi (bottom)
emgodini (pit)
buxoki (falsehood)
buqhetseba (trickery)
kugwetywa (condemnation)
I can't fully vouch for the veracity of these translations, since I got them through Google Translate.

My continents are far bigger than theyr canon counterpart, and they do include subsaharian nations;

Might I suggest this -
http://www.atlas-games.com/nyambe/

While I am not a history buff on African culture, history or myths, this seem to be a good resource when considering that kind of area.

I am not very knowledgeable about African history myself. I have this book, and forms the framework for what I'm working on. It's a really good book, and I think a cluster pulled from Nyambe into The Land of Mists makes for a very exciting addition. It's a well thought out, cool setting!

There are two fan made domains based on African cultures, you can find them in the Undead Sea Scrolls and Navigaccio netbooks, I believe compiled by Dion. Mbonyete and Nzari are their names. Coupled with the Wildlands, I thought they made for a nice cluster. Mbonyete is a more traditional African domain, while Nzari is heavily inspired by Heart of Darkness, with a Mordentish darklord hiding deep in the jungle. I think they're both worth a look.

I will absolutely give them a look! I really like the Wild lands, but the lack of people to add culture hurts it, in my view.

Both very good domains! I have been running Ravenloft for years, but have yet to make my own big contribution to the landscape. The cluster I am building has 4 domains. It has been a lot of fun to work on.

I'm almost finished with all the basic information for the cluster, going to have all the requisite information, and be illustrated as well! I want to make sure this ends up in the proper place, can anyone help me with that?

It's a bit late to be mentioned in your writing process, but you may find this old thread useful:
