Appearance

At first look, Raven appears to be a tall, pale human with long white hair at about 30 years of age. However, upon closer inspection his elven features can be clearly seen on his fine featured face. Raven is unusually tall for an elf, standing at well above six feet in height, and he uses this abnormality to appear human, hiding his ears in his long hair. Raven's eyes are dull gray and his skin, which appears pale at a distance is actually ash gray.
Raven always wears black. His pants are a thick woven fabric, possibly wool, and his black shirt is made of silk. He also wears a supple leather vest with a high collar that covers his neck up to his jawbone. His riding boots are of the highest quality, but are well worn from years of travel. He also wears leather riding gloves which cover part of his forearms as well. Raven's outfit is dominated by a long black cloak with red trim and lining, which he uses to conceal his whole body most of the time, and a wide brimmed black hat with a red band that he is rarely seen without. On especially bright days, Raven will were a pair of red tinted spectacles to shield his sensitive eyes. A single white feather tucked into the right side of the hat band is the only part of Raven that doesn't seem dark and forbidding.

Background

Raven's background is shrouded in a veil of mystery. Only through trust and persistence will he ever reveal his secrets.
Born in a small elven village on Faerun, Erasten Oakbow was the bastard son of an elven sorceress. He was conceived after his mother, on an adventure to the underdark, was beset upon by one of the male guards who had captured her. She was rescued by her companions a shortly before she was due to be sacrificed to the demon Loth. Shortly after his birth, his Mother was called away on another mission, this time to confront a vampire. She never returned, however her companions say that she valiantly sacrificed he own life to destroy the vampire.
Erasten was then adopted by his last living relative, his grandfather. His grandfather was the retired caption of the guards, and under his tutelage Erasten was taught the basics of magic and swordplay. Unfortunately, life was not easy for the young elf. All of the other youths would tease and bully Erasten for being both a bastard and the son of a Drow. Matters were not made any easier by the fact that Erasten had several severe physical problems due to his mixed blood. He was much taller than any of the other children and his skin was incredibly sensitive to the sun, forcing him to cover his entire body even on the hottest of days. Names like "Skygazer", "Ghost" and "Blackheart" became common on the tender ears of the young elf. His mind also suffered from this and soon he developed aphonia (inability to speak above a whisper), and a crippling arachnaphobia. The children were not the only ones to take offense at his presence, the village counsel wished the boy to leave the village but could not voice their opinion since his grandfather was such an influential member of the counsel. However, at the tender age of 96, Erasten's grandfather passed from this world and the counsel was able to banish the half Drow. This was the day that Erasten died.
Once banished from the village Raven dedicated his life to revenge against those who he saw were the cause of his misery, Drow and Vampires. Gathering up his grandfather's long sword He headed straight for the underdark. Along the way he witnessed a flock of Ravens watching over an old abandoned cemetery. It was here that he adopted the name Raven, vowing to be as vigilant and remembering of the dead as they. As Raven approached the entrance to the underdark, mists surrounded him and before long he found himself within the borders of Barovia.
This event forced Raven to calm down and sidetrack his plans for revenge. He set about working as an escort for caravans traveling through the dark forests of Barovia. Soon after he began work he was summoned to do a job for the lord of the land, Strahd Von Zarovich himself. As a reward, Raven was given a strange black pyramid that radiated unnatural power, as well as evil. Raven still possesses this item, however is still not sure of it's true power.
After Barovia, Raven began his career as a vampire hunter and professional problem solver. With the exception of his familiar and best friend Corvus, Raven has usually worked alone. One notable exception was during his early years of traveling where he had married a human thief by the name of Marley to save her from being sacrificed. He soon began traveling with her and slowly began to feel things for her. However, during a mission his own carelessness cost Marley her life.

Current Sketch

Raven currently found himself in Falcovnia. A fight with a vampire had cost him dearly, robbing him of most of his hard earned skills and some of his memories. Also, some recent events have cast some doubt on his own past, including whether his mother died in that battle, and whether his father was really a Drow.

Personality

Raven is usually quiet and stoic in his mannerisms. He prefers not to talk and to lay back in the shadows while other people negotiate. His many years of hard life and many experiences with death and the dead have made him hard and emotionless. He feels that the dead are nothing but food for the worms, and that burial rights are to be respected but are not necessary.
Raven is an atheist, and refuses to ask any god for assistance, however he will use Holy water. Despite the dark side of Raven, He truly has a heart of gold and will show emotion in rare instances. He has a soft spot for disadvantaged children, seeing some of himself in them. Raven doesn't fear death, and will take risks that seam suicidal to most.

Mystery

There are many questions unanswered about Raven. And some instances defy explanation. First is the incredible size of Raven, Taller than most humans. Next is the fact that Raven will refuse healing, yet he heals faster than people who have been treated. Finally, Raven never shows emotion, however he has been known to fly into a rage during which his aphonia clears up and his eyes become a deep red color.
